Mini Coin and stuff...

Here's that little mini that was coming my way.   She put a little mini-me in the corner.  Isn't that clever? Love the colors and the fun quilting on it.

On Saturday I snuck away with a friend to the Queen Bee Market, "a hip, modern, and fresh handmade art and gift show in the San Diego area."  I was just going to check it out, but I ended up purchasing some very cute items. 

Check out these cute "Baked Pins" from cremedelagems, and this fun necklace made from an original photograph and a scrabble tile from staceywinters.

I also picked up an adorable flower pin from thepleatedpoppy

which Miss K wore on Saturday and I wore on Sunday.  So it's already getting a lot of use!

It's really time to get going on Miss K's class quilt for their Open House Art Auction! 

That's coming up real soon.  I've been laying the blocks out on the floor in various configurations (who needs a design wall, psha!) and auditioning fabric for it. 

Now it's time to quit foolin' around and make something! (that was just a little pep talk for myself).

I'm off to cut fabric...and it's only 6:20am! Guess I should help get the kids off to school first!

What a fun way to spend National Quilting Day (and the day before my birthday)!  2 quilt shops, an art quilt gallery, 5 fun friends, lots of laughter, a scenic drive, some yummy food, and some fun purchases!

Between the two shops I picked up this pile of gorgeous fabric...ALL ON SALE!

I couldn't pass up this cute covered button-style magnet (bought at the Visions Art Quilt Gallery).  See the stitching on it?  And these stylish embroidery scissors.

And I thought it was about time that I bought myself a pair of machine quilting gloves.  I'm excited to give them a try!

Field Trip

I took a field trip on Saturday to the Del Mar Quilt, Craft and Sewing Festival.  I was a bit bummed because I had forgotten about it until late the night before.  I only had a little time in the morning to go.  So I wasn't able to invite anyone to go with me at the last minute.  But it ended up being fun anyway.  Lots of fun things to look at.  I felt a bit rushed, but I made it through the whole place checking all the booths out.

Here's what I came home with:

20 fat quarters for $1.50 each!    The booth was Lazy Daisy Cottage from St. George, UT.  They had the cutest fabric choices by far!  Even the shopping bag was cute, a vellum bag with daisies all over it.  And I also picked up a couple half-yard cuts of polka dots from another booth.

I was intrigued by the Miracle Ironing Board Cover.  It's made from fiberglass yarn and is supposed to reflect the heat from the iron, so the heat is coming from the top and bottom.  And it seemed to really leave you with a nicely ironed fabric...but after I spent the money on the fabric I decided to wait a bit on that.  I do have an order form, but I'll have to pay shipping and handling if I decide I can't live without it.  Have you had any experience with this Ironing Board cover?  Leave a comment if you do!

As I was hurrying toward the door to head home I looked over and recognized a local blogger.  I only know her from her blog, so what a treat it was to recognize her and get to talk to her for a few short minutes and to meet her son and husband !  A highlight of the day for sure!

New Fabric

Found some time to get to the quilt shop yesterday. I wish it was closer, but then again, that might be dangerous!

I was looking for a back for my birthday quilt. But they didn't carry the line of fabric I used, and nothing else seemed to be right. It's not looking good that I'm going to get that done by my birthday...we'll see. I think I need to see if I can find it at an online store.

I was also looking for some fabric for a baby quilt that I want to make for a friend. Here's the fabric I chose:

I found a quilt on flickr that is my inspiration, but unfortunately I didn't save the link. It had small pinwheels in the sashing and some half square triangles. It's soooo cute! I hope mine turns out as cute!

I also bought this fabric:

for the fundraiser quilt I'm doing for my daughter's class. It's a football team theme. The kids just finished the logo artwork, so I've got to get busy tracing the artwork onto some fabric. The next step will be to have the kids color the team logos in with fabric inks.

Can you see why I'm not sure I'm going to get my birthday quilt done in time?!

Quilts and Such

We've been enjoying all the moisture, the beautiful blue skies mixed with big puffy clouds and clear air.

I've got the binding all sewn on my Christmas gift/Housewarming gift quilt. I started this twin size quilt in January. Now to make a label and then to send it off to it's new home. As soon as I get word that it is safe at it's destination I'll post lots of pictures. I am so happy with how it turned out. (I'd love to keep it!)

I have a new project on the horizon. It will be a fundraiser quilt for the elementary school from my daughter's class. The kids will get started on the artwork the last week of February. The theme is college football: The Big 12! So that should be fun.

I got to go out on an early valentine date with my cute husband this afternoon. After lunch he took me shopping at this little shop. He'd been in there before but couldn't pick something out without me there. He's got good taste, it was full of fun clothes and accessories. I got a necklace and a long dress coat. Fun, Fun!

::Newsflash::

I just found out my brother is in town on business and I might be able to give him the quilt in person at the airport before he gets on his flight to go home! (Much better than mailing!) What luck. I hope it works out!

Tribute to Shoesday

I have to give a shout-out to my friend Diane who has shoesday every Tuesday, except yesterday... shoesday was thwarted! So in support of Diane and her shoesday here are my new shoes which I purchased ON shoesday late last night while the mall was still open for holiday shoppers!

And while at said mall my cohort-in-crime found this cute bag for me!!!

We had a marathon shopping therapy session and I just wanted to say THANKS to her! Now I actually have some pants that fit and I feel much better :o).
