My secret swap partner for the Scrappy Pincushion Swap likes birds.
Originally I bought this book, planning to make something cute out of it:
There are so many cute projects inside these pages. I picked one out and was excited about it. But then I went to the San Diego Quilt Show at the Convention Center this past weekend and saw this cute pattern:
I loved the idea of it and the vintage salt shaker used as the base filled with small buttons. I bought it as a kit so it came with the salt shaker and fabric to complete the project. But when I looked back at my partner’s blog and flickr photostream I decided she needed a more modern approach.
I hope she will like my interpretation!
I am still waiting for my doll quilt to arrive from the doll quilt swap. It must be coming from a far away location…I keep checking my mailbox and nothing yet. Hopefully soon! The one I sent off was received and she loved it! Yay!

LOOOOOVE it!!! wish I was your swap partner. Love pincushions!! Did you see the candycorn one someone posted today at spun sugar quilts blog, it was from a magazine or something! It was cute too, but yours is soo cute and way more functional with the included button keep and flappable(hahaha) needle keep! GOOD JOB!
I love how it turned out, Tina! I like how the flower looks like the eye of the bird. Nice job! Your partner is sure to love it!
I don't know how you do it. That is darling!
It turned out fabulous! I love the cute little buttons you put in the shaker.
I love your interpretation Tina! So cute how you lined up the fabric just right. You're so good at finding all these cute ideas. I want to make one of those gathered clutches!
Well, she will have to love the bird! Both of those book look so good that I will have to buy them! Thanks for sharing them.
