Auction Fundraiser

All three kids have camps coming up this summer.  Tonight there was an auction at church to help them earn some cash to help pay for the camps.  I made a couple items for the auction to help earn some money for them too. 

The first project was a spring tablerunner.  This one was quick and easy and I used what I had in my stash, so no extra cost!  I followed this tutorial from Amy Smart. 

Here’s the finished tablerunner along with 10 handmade cards packaged for the auction too. 

And I tried my hand at a candy bouquet.  Yum!

Whether or not we got some good money from these crafts, they sure were fun to create! And they got me back to my blog, which I’m happy about!

Mini Coin and stuff...

Here's that little mini that was coming my way.   She put a little mini-me in the corner.  Isn't that clever? Love the colors and the fun quilting on it.

On Saturday I snuck away with a friend to the Queen Bee Market, "a hip, modern, and fresh handmade art and gift show in the San Diego area."  I was just going to check it out, but I ended up purchasing some very cute items. 

Check out these cute "Baked Pins" from cremedelagems, and this fun necklace made from an original photograph and a scrabble tile from staceywinters.

I also picked up an adorable flower pin from thepleatedpoppy

which Miss K wore on Saturday and I wore on Sunday.  So it's already getting a lot of use!

It's really time to get going on Miss K's class quilt for their Open House Art Auction! 

That's coming up real soon.  I've been laying the blocks out on the floor in various configurations (who needs a design wall, psha!) and auditioning fabric for it. 

Now it's time to quit foolin' around and make something! (that was just a little pep talk for myself).

I'm off to cut fabric...and it's only 6:20am! Guess I should help get the kids off to school first!  

April Swaps

I've joined up with the Mini QT Swap on Flickr.  We are matched up with a partner (each month that we want to participate) and we send a quilt between 6 and 12 inches to each other.  Each month there is a theme and April's was a mini coin quilt.  (remember March?)

Here's my mini coin:

My partner lives close by again, but we weren't able to get together to swap.  I just heard from her and she says that she received it and loves it.  (yay!)

This is the sneak peek she showed me of my quilt...can't wait to see the whole thing!

There are also other options.  One is 3.5 inch blocks.  So I signed up for that too.  And the theme was "camping".  Here's my interpretation:  roasting marshmallows!

 

Nine of us signed up, so I made 9 blocks.  I've heard from a few recipients and they seem to be happy with them.  So I'd say it was a successful month :).

I signed up for May too, but just for the 3.5 inch blocks this time.  The theme is black and white plus one color, we were all assigned a color and I got green. I squeaked in as the 16th member of the group.  So I'll be making 16-3.5 inch blocks in May.

My other May project is getting Miss K's class fundraiser quilt put together.  I've got the blocks the kids made, so now I just need to figure out a layout and get started!

Catching Up

It's been a busy couple weeks leading up to Youth Conference which is this weekend! 

We're doing a Pioneer Trek this year and I'm part of the organizing and carrying out side of it this time.  Now rain seems to be in the forecast...so we'll see what will happen!  We've got about 230 youth ages 14-18 coming.

Yes, we'll even be dressing the part.  I decided I needed a little bag so I could carry things I might need along the trail.

 

I've also been working to get the class quilt done.  It just needs a label, which I'll take care of on Monday.

Everyone pray for dry weather this weekend for us!

March Updates

The Sailboat quilt sailed off to it's new destination on Monday. I'm so happy with it. Except for that boat that's bottom center. Not good contrast there. Oh well. Once I made it, I didn't want to leave it out. I like the one next to it, the one that's going the opposite way from the rest of the boats. The full picture is for Trisha.

Here are the ATC (Artist Trading Cards) that Miss K Designs received from the swap she participated in. She really enjoyed receiving these in the mail from all over: Dubai UAE, Ohio, Australia, Germany, and Missouri!

Here's a peek at our football quilt we're making for a school fundraiser:

The blocks have actually been colored and the kids helped sew colored strips of fabric around each block. It was really fun to go to the school with my machine and have the kids try sewing for the first time (for most of them). They did a great job, and found out it wasn't as hard as they thought it was going to be! I'll take some pictures and post them soon.

I received an awesome package all the way from Australia, my 4 Seasons Quilt Swap Mono quilt from my partner....Jackie!

I'll take some pictures of it tomorrow and post them. All I can say is, it's AWESOME!!!

Sailing, Sailing...

Sailboats are going swimmingly! I've got the top pieced and now I need to get back to the store to buy the backing fabric. Why can I not just get all the fabric I need all at once?! I don't really like to figure it all out from start to finish. I get a vague idea of what I want to do and just jump in and start sewing. Serves me right.

I tried to purchase the fabric for my birthday quilt online but even though the site said "in stock" it wasn't! It was too good to be true! It's hard to find Moda Urban Chik Blossom fabric...I think it came out in 2007. I'm waiting to hear if they have ANY of the Blossom fabric in stock... tap... tap... tap... I'd AT LEAST like to purchase the fabric for my birthday since there is no way I can get it done by Saturday like I had originally hoped!

I'm going over today to the school to have the kids start coloring in the football logos for the fundraiser quilt. I hope it goes well!

Rainforest Animals Fundraiser Quilt

The class quilt is finished. The kids' artwork is so fun, and I love the fabric that my daughter's teacher chose for the quilt. It's amazing how much more enjoyable it is to work on a quilt when the colors are pleasing to me. I really like all the colors in the quilt and how they work together with the artwork. Hopefully this year will be another successful auction for her school. I can't wait to see the art projects the other classes did.

School Auction Quilts

My next quilt project will benefit my daughter's school. They are having an art auction on Open House night at the end of the month. Each classroom creates a work of art to be auctioned off. My daughter's classroom is doing a quilt. Each of the kids drew a picture of a rainforest animal onto a 7 1/2 inch square of muslin and then colored them in with fabric ink. Now it's my turn to sew them all together into a wall hanging. The pictures turned out so cute and I'm excited to get it put together. Here it is layed out on my floor so I can start sewing.

Last year we did a quilt also. It was a twin size, and the children did beach and ocean pictures. Of course each child in the class wants to own the quilt, so they put a lot of pressure on their parents the night of the Open House to win them the quilt. Therefore it is a pretty successful event for the school! And the quality of the art is amazing.

My high school son is in the marching band and they just recently had a fundraiser auction also. So, of course, I decided to make a quilt and donate it to the cause (because that's what I do). It was a twin size quilt in the colors of his school. It is actually the quilt that I have under my blog title. I haven't heard yet how much it went for. I hope it did well.
