Humanitarian Quilt Project

At church we are getting a group of 30 girls ages 16 to 18 together for a leadership overnighter at the end of the month and I'm in charge of providing a humanitarian project experience for them.  I checked this website and found there is a need for full sized quilts.  So I am planning to have a quilt ready that night for the girls to tie.

I was fortunate to receive a lot of free fabric right after Christmas last year.  And this is exactly how I want to use it.

So I decided to make up a simple quilt top out of plain blocks.  I worked out my idea on EQ5.

I think it actually looks better on the graphic than with the actual fabric...but I am using what I have, and I am grateful to be able to provide this quilt at minimal cost.

Here are all the fabric squares layed out on the floor. I ran out of room on the right, but I squeezed that last row in.

I have a little helper.  We have a 5 month old kitten.  Now I understand why quilters always have pictures of their cats on their fabric.  He definitely likes to cuddle up with the piles of fabric when he's not trying to help me cut and sew. (sorry Trish).

In order to try to stay organized and not leave the blocks all over the floor I stacked them up by rows and labeled them to keep them in order.

Now I'm ready to get started sewing them together!

I think you did a great job. How do you get your quilt pic out of EQ5 to put on your post? I've been tring to do it and I can't figure it out. I'm really bad on the computer.

Great quilt! I like your design how the red goes light to dark to light. You are killing me with that cat on the fabric picture, Tina.

Hi Tina!
I am so impressed with you sharing your love of quilting with this group of young women. It is so important to connect with young people and pass along the joy that quilting give someone, especially when making a quilt for others. Fabulous job staying organized! You really are on top of this quilt!
